How to apply for a 3D artist apprenticeship
A 3D printing company is preparing to start offering a training program for new and aspiring 3D artists, and it’s offering $50,000 for anyone who can make a 3-D model using a $1,000 3D printer.
The company is part of a growing trend in 3D-printing that is looking for creative, skilled and experienced 3D print artists to become part of the company’s 3D Printing Operations team.
The apprenticeships, which are expected to be offered over the next six months, are intended to allow 3D printers to better communicate with their customers.
“We want to build a network of people who are interested in 3d printing and we think that if you have a 3d printer you should be able to communicate with customers in a way that makes sense,” said Kevin Coker, president and CEO of The Forge 3D Print Shop in San Jose, California.
Coker said the company had previously applied for a program in which apprentices would work with customers and use 3D printed objects to help them make 3D prints.
He said that the program, however, had been turned down by a customer because the printers could not be used to print 3D models.
“The customer was just concerned about how to make a model with the printer.
We thought that that’s a good place to be,” he said.
The Forge 3d Print Shop has also applied for the apprenticeships in other industries, including food packaging and clothing.
In the 3D modeling arena, the company is offering the first training program aimed at aspiring 3DS users.
“As 3D designers, we love the art of design and the creative process.
However, there is no better way to learn to use 3d printers than by taking them apart and building them yourself.
This program will provide an opportunity for new 3D users to be taught the fundamentals of 3D design, while also enabling those who already know what they are doing to build models with a 3DS,” the company said in a statement.
The apprenticeship will run for six months.
The company will have four weeks to complete the program.
“At The Forge, we believe that 3D art is more than a tool for making objects, but also an extension of human relationships,” the statement said.
“Through a hands-on training experience, our students will learn the fundamentals, techniques and skills necessary to build 3D model files, which they can then share with the world.
Our students are excited about their new opportunity to learn 3D and have an impact in the world.”
The Forge is one of a handful of companies that is starting to offer 3D training to its 3D software users.
Google, for example, has launched an online training program that teaches 3D modelling and 3D texturing.
